Over the years studies show an increase in the number of mature entrepreneurs. There are so many reasons for them to decide to start a business, such as having a project after their retirement, and keeping their mind sharp, to sustaining their lifestyle with a limited pension.

If you’re thinking of starting a business, but you think that you are too old, our guest this week will prove otherwise!

In today’s episode, we have Rob Bee, founder of The Art of Health, joining us to share some awesome insight on his personal journey as an entrepreneur, and his advice on launching a business after 60.

Rob describes himself as a musician, artist and health nut! He is passionate about what he calls the ‘Holy Trinity of Health’. These are:

  • The food you eat (nutrition)
  • Movement (exercise and fun - preferably outdoors)
  • Creativity (art, music, knitting, cooking, organising… etc)

We are all creative beings - but this side of our development/personality can often get buried by self-doubt, dogma and the hassle of everyday life. Rob's business ‘The Art of Health’ addresses this by creating a community around weekly, monthly and annual Health and Creativity programs.

Robert has spent most of his professional life working as a professional musician. Playing the piano, the saxophone and singing (both solo and with bands) all around the world. He also makes and sells paintings. He co-runs a gallery in his hometown, Lancaster.

Top 5 Tips

  • Say NO to what is pulling you away from your goal! Create boundaries on how you spend your time, how you schedule your days, weeks. Understand what your priorities are, and focus on them. For everything else, learn how to say NO. Put your energy on what matters the most! Don’t try to do too much at the same time otherwise, you won’t go anywhere.
  • Making fast money is not always in your interest! Doing something that can generate good money might remove your focus from your primary goal. "We're kept from our goal not by obstacles, but by a clear path to a lesser goal" - Bhagavad Gita. You don’t have time to waste on things that are holding you back from your new future.
  • Set GOOD habits! Watching TV in the evening to "relax" will likely lead to you going to bed later, plus being exposed to blue lights will have a negative effect on your sleep. Instead, stop all screen exposure 1 to 2 hours before bed and follow the same wind-down routine. A successful day always starts the day before! By having healthy evening and morning routines you will regain control of your life.
  • Avoid ALL sources of distraction! Keep your focus on what you decided to achieve that day. Don’t look at your phone first thing in the morning, remove all distracting notifications as it takes on average 20 minutes to get back into what you were doing.
  • Decide what your new priorities are and build your life around that! Weekday evening social events are not always the best things. Always ask yourself: "Will this help me reach my goal?" If not, better to call it off.
